Position: Senior Scientist – Clinical Biochemistry (Automated Section) [Senior Laboratory Scientists (Biochemistry-Automated Section)]

Key Responsibilities
We are looking for a committed and experienced scientific professional who thrives in a collaborative and dynamic laboratory setting. In this role, you will assist with reliable and efficient customer service by working collaboratively with other team members, referrers and patients. You should have many years of experience working in a busy Biochemistry laboratory, and be keen to use your knowledge and skills to assist our scientific team.
- Perform advanced operation of high-throughput instruments within the Clinical Biochemistry and Immunoassay laboratory.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues identified during daily processing.
- Maintain result quality using BioRad Unity or equivalent quality assurance systems at a supervisor level
- Review and release clinical reports and support junior staff with complex cases.
- Fulfil delegated supervisory, training, or management responsibilities as needed.
- Support a culture of quality and safety in line with departmental and OHS standards.
- Collaborate with colleagues, referrers, and patients to ensure efficient, reliable service delivery.
Our department routinely operates a range of shifts with on-call coverage outside of these hours:
- 24hrs a day, Monday to Friday
- 6.00 am - 9.00 pm Saturday
- 7.00 am - 9.00 pm Sunday
Please note flexibility to cover all rostered shifts is required.
What we are looking for
We are looking for a committed and experienced scientific professional who thrives in a collaborative and dynamic laboratory setting. To be considered for this role, you will have:
- A degree or higher qualification in Science, Applied Science, Medical Laboratory Science, or equivalent.
- At least 10 years’ experience in a Clinical Biochemistry laboratory.
- Demonstrated ability to apply advanced theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience (highly regarded).
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
