Key Responsibilities

  • Overseeing clinical testing to ensure accurate, timely, and high-quality results that meet regulatory and business standards.
  • Reporting and interpreting cytogenetic findings to support patient diagnosis and treatment.
  • Identifying and developing new clinical testing methods by leveraging expertise in emerging technologies.
  • Implementing continuous improvement strategies to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of established clinical testing.
  • Providing expert scientific guidance and ongoing education to colleagues within the department and across the organisation.
  • Collaborating closely with pathologists, laboratory professionals, and clinical teams to support patient care.
  • Maintaining precise records of test results and quality control procedures.
  • Staying up to date with advancements in cytogenetics through professional development, scientific literature, and industry conferences.

What we are looking for

The ideal candidate is a scientific leader with a strong service orientation and a proven record of achievement. You bring a broad knowledge of cytogenetic testing, including both conventional and molecular methods for the investigation of constitutional disorders, haematological malignancy and solid tumours. An understanding of regulatory and quality system requirements for cytogenetic testing will be desirable.

Requirements:

  • Postgraduate qualifications in Cytogenetics (FHGSA, MHGSA, RCPA FFSc) or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in a management or supervisory role in a clinical cytogenetics setting is desirable.
  • Expertise in cytogenetic techniques, including karyotyping, FISH, and microarray analysis.
  • Strong understanding of clinical laboratory standards, regulatory requirements, and quality control protocols.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
