About the Opportunity

Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology now has exciting opportunities for Evening Laboratory Assistants to join the Molecular Pathology/NIPT Department at Bowen Hills, QLD.

Applications are invited for permanent part-time or full-time positions within the Molecular Pathology evening team. Positions exist for two to three evenings a week, or as full-time.

Full training is provided and duties include (but will not be limited to):

  • Performing specimen log-in, specimen retrieval, processing, and filing;
  • Conducting DNA/RNA extraction (manual and automated);
  • Handling phone enquiries and reagent preparation;
  • Operating specimen handling instruments; and
  • Performing other general laboratory duties as assigned by the Lab Assistant Supervisor or Laboratory Management.

Shift times are 7.5 hours and currently range across the time frame from 7 pm to 2:30 am. Shifts start times of the different rostered benches currently vary from 5:00pm through 70-:00pm. After sufficient training, participation in the Molecular Pathology weekend and public holiday roster may also be required.

We are seeking candidates with an interest in infectious disease testing, as well as those interested in pre-natal testing and human molecular genetics.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have the following: 

  • Demonstrated interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills and the ability to work as an effective member of the team
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise workload and work methodically and efficiently whilst adhering to occupational health and safety policies
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • The ability to be an effective team member and have a positive influence on other staff, and
  • A sound knowledge of computers and software, 

We are looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys variety within their role;
  • Is committed to SNP policies and procedures;
  • Has a willingness to increase skill base as required;
  • Displays efficient time management and problem-solving skills.

Suitable applicants should be enthusiastic, possess good communication and organisational skills and have the ability to work unsupervised or as part of a busy and motivated team. A high level of commitment to laboratory turnaround times, customer service, accuracy of processing and laboratory goals is required.

For the position, it is a requirement that:

  • You are vaccinated or immune against specified infectious diseases (proof to be obtained by the manager). 
  • Your manager will let you know what vaccinations are required as per “SNP - Staff Vaccinations – Procedures, Information and Protocols”. 
  • All costs pertaining to the Staff Vaccination Program are covered by the Practice.
