About the Opportunity

Applications are invited for an experienced full-time Multi-Disciplinary Scientist to join the Gold Coast Laboratories, which incorporates the Gold Coast North laboratories (Southport and Pindara) and the Gold Coast South laboratory (Tugun). With laboratories across the Gold Coast, this is an opportunity to experience a unique lifestyle, with some of the best beaches on the coast, a laid-back cafe culture, great recreational activities and easy access to surrounding areas such as Brisbane, Northern NSW and the Gold Coast Hinterland. 

The Southport Laboratory primarily services Gold Coast Private, Southport Private, the Southport Icon Clinic, Tasman Oncology, Miami Day Procedures and many urgent tests for patients across the Gold Coast. The Pindara Laboratory primarily services Pindara Hospital, which includes Special Care Nursery, Haemodialysis and Day Oncology. The Tugun Laboratory is based within the John Flynn Private Hospital, managing a wide range of services, including emergency and intensive care, coronary care, oncology, maternity, surgical, rehab and medical wards. 

While the successful applicant would primarily be based within the Gold Coast North laboratories, you will be available to assist at the Gold Coast South laboratory and, as such, would need to be able to work as part of a rotating 24/7 roster, including public holidays.

Some of the responsibilities of the role include:

• Performing a range of diagnostic tests in Haematology, Blood Bank, Biochemistry and Microbiology;
• Performing all tasks relevant to a particular scientific shift or a particular section of the laboratory as specified in departmental manuals;
• Upholding quality standards within the laboratory by adhering to departmental quality system procedures;
• Complying with the occupational health and safety policy and programs to ensure personal health and safety and the health of safety of others in the workplace; and
• Satisfying the requirements of internal and external customers, through the provision of reliable and efficient service levels.

About You

To be considered for this position, you will be degree qualified in Medical Laboratory Science or similar, with working experience in a medical laboratory, preferably including haematology and blood bank.

Our ideal candidate will have well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and a strong team focus. Moreover, initiative and an enthusiasm to take on extra duties within the laboratory are required.

You will have high attention to detail and excellent organisational skills, allowing you to prioritise your workload and work accurately and efficiently while unsupervised.
