About the Opportunity

Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology has an exciting opportunity for a permanent, full-time Laboratory Assistant (Haematology) to join their team in our Laboratory at Greenslopes Private Hospital, Brisbane.

Responsibilities of the role will include, but not be limited to:

  • Preparing and processing clinical specimens in our Pre-analytical area of the laboratory
  • Performing all tasks relevant to a particular laboratory assistant shift or a particular section of the laboratory as specified in department manuals;
  • Upholding quality standards within the laboratory by adhering to quality system procedures
  • Complying with the occupational health and safety policy and programs to ensure personal health and safety, and the health and safety of others in the workplace;
  • Cooperating with work colleagues, referrers and their patients to assist with the provision of reliable and efficient service levels
  • Participating in in-service training as appropriate and training other staff as required; and
  • Performing special duties as required contributing to the implementation of the strategic plan and the effective functioning of a specific station, laboratory or organisation as a whole.

Some of the more specific responsibilities of the position will include:

  • Specimen reception and data entry;
  • Preparing samples for analysis;
  • Assisting the scientific staff with automated instruments;
  • General laboratory duties as required;
  • Assisting in the internal courier where required; and
  • Assisting with phone enquiries.

About You

The ideal candidate must have the following:

  • Flexibility to work across a rotating 24/7 roster, across weekdays, weekends and public holidays;
  • Ability to be trained in specimen reception and some basic testing procedures with good keyboard skills;
  • Ability to prioritise work and work efficiently in a team environment;
  • Strong attention to detail; 
  • A strong commitment to laboratory turnaround times.
