Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology is one of the largest pathology practices in Australia, providing comprehensive services to patients and doctors over a geographic area throughout Queensland and New South Wales and employing more than 2000 people.
Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology services the Brisbane metropolitan area and regional areas extending as far north as Cairns and south to Coffs Harbour and offers both routine testing and specialised testing for referral laboratories throughout Australia.
Applications are invited for a full-time. Laboratory Scientist position within the Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) Laboratory, at Bowen Hills in a 12-month contract capacity.
Duties may include DNA extraction, library preparation, amplification, sequencing, operation of automated liquid handling systems and associated clinical processing tasks, clerical processing, verbal and email correspondence with clients, plus other general laboratory duties as assigned by supervisory staff or Laboratory Management.
The successful applicant will be rostered to various shifts throughout the week with start times ranging from 6am (2pm finish) to 10 am (6pm finish) plus participation in a weekend roster as required. All training is supplied on the job, with remuneration to be commensurate with the successful applicant’s experience.
The position would suit an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual able to work with minimum supervision in a high throughput team environment.
Applicants must have a tertiary degree in a relevant area of study from a recognized tertiary institution. Previous experience in the area of human molecular genetics will be viewed very favourably, however other suitably qualified laboratory scientists without clinical experience or with transferrable skills are also encouraged to apply.
Applicants should possess excellent communication and organisational skills, and a high level of commitment to accuracy of processing and laboratory turnaround times. Applicants must have the ability to remain focused on tasks under pressure, to precisely follow SOPs, and have a capacity for independent thought and problem-solving ability.
