About the Opportunity

Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology has an exciting opportunity for a permanent, full-time Laboratory Scientist to work from the Cytogenetics Department in Bowen Hills, Brisbane.

The main aim of this varied role is to perform laboratory and associated functions.

Some of the more specific responsibilities of the position will include: 

  • Culturing and preparing a range of sample types for chromosome banding and analysis, SNP microrarray and FISH;
  • Analysing specimens by G-banding, SNP microarray and FISH;
  • Reagent preparation; and
  • Performing general laboratory duties as required.

The successful applicant will have a tertiary degree in a relevant area of study from a recognised tertiary institution, excellent communication and customer service skills as well as a high attention to detail to enable maximum accuracy of processing. They will possess a strong commitment to laboratory turnaround times and the ability to perform extended periods of microscopic analysis. 

Previous cytogenetic or microarray laboratory experience will be viewed favourably for this role, however recent graduates, and those expecting to graduate in 2019, are also strongly encouraged to apply.

This position will work either evening shift (typically 3pm to 11pm) or day shifts with a permanent weekend roster. Note that shifts may be variable, with additional rostered hours as required. All training to appropriate competency is supplied as on the job within regular business hours. This role offers the opportunity to work both autonomously and as a team member in this busy laboratory.
